Bhutan Classic, Paro, Thimphu & Punakha

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day 1

   Arrival in Paro, drive to Thimphu

   Land in Paro on one of the world's most scenic approaches. Meet your Bhutanese guide and drive about 1 hour to Thimphu. Evening at Tashichho Dzong for the flag lowering. Overnight in Thimphu.

2. Day 2

   Thimphu: Buddha Dordenma and the Takin

   See the giant Buddha Dordenma above the valley, the Memorial Chorten, the takin preserve and the Folk Heritage Museum. Evening at the Centenary Farmers' Market or a craft bazaar. Overnight in Thimphu.

3. Day 3

   Thimphu to Punakha over Dochula

   Cross Dochula Pass with its 108 chortens and Himalayan views. Visit Punakha Dzong where two rivers meet, then walk across the Pho Chhu suspension bridge. Overnight in Punakha.

4. Day 4

   Chimi Lhakhang, then to Paro

   Short walk through rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple. Drive to Paro and visit Rinpung Dzong and the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang. Overnight in Paro.

5. Day 5

   Hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery

   The highlight: a hike of about 5 hours return to Paro Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest, perched on a cliff 900 metres above the valley. Hot stone bath in a farmhouse in the evening. Overnight in Paro.

6. Day 6

   Departure from Paro

   Breakfast and transfer to Paro airport for your flight home. Trip ends.
