Meghalaya Root Bridges Trek & Waterfalls

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day 1

   Arrival in Guwahati, Kamakhya and on to Shillong

   Pickup in Guwahati and darshan at the hilltop Kamakhya Temple. Drive about 100 km up the hills to Shillong, called the Scotland of the East. Overnight in Shillong.

2. Day 2

   Shillong city and Laitlum canyons

   Sunrise at the Laitlum canyon edge, then Shillong Peak, Elephant Falls and the Air Force museum. Evening café hopping on Laitumkhrah's music lanes. Overnight in Shillong.

3. Day 3

   Shillong to Sohra, Wahkaba Falls and Arwah Cave

   Drive to Cherrapunji with stops at Wahkaba Falls and the fossil-lined Arwah Cave. Late afternoon at the Nohkalikai Falls viewpoint, India's tallest plunge waterfall. Overnight in Cherrapunji.

4. Day 4

   Double Decker root bridge trek at Nongriat

   A guided trek of about 3,500 steps down to Nongriat village and the Double Decker living root bridge, grown by the Khasi people over centuries. Swim in the blue pools at Rainbow Falls, then climb back. Overnight in Cherrapunji.

5. Day 5

   Dawki boating and a Mawlynnong homestay

   Drive to Dawki for a boat ride on the Umngot river and lunch by the water at Shnongpdeng. Evening in the flower-lined lanes of Mawlynnong and the Sky View bamboo tower. Overnight in a Mawlynnong homestay.

6. Day 6

   Mawlynnong to Guwahati, trip ends

   Breakfast in the village and a drive of about 175 km (5 to 6 hours) back to Guwahati. Drop at the airport or railway station. Trip ends.
