Sikkim Grand Tour, Lachung, Pelling & Darjeeling

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day 1

   Arrival at NJP, drive to Gangtok

   Pickup from NJP station or Bagdogra airport and the drive up to Gangtok, about 125 km. Check in and walk down to MG Marg for momos in the evening. Overnight in Gangtok.

2. Day 2

   Changu Lake day trip from Gangtok

   A morning drive to the high-altitude Tsomgo Lake and the Baba Mandir shrine, with the option of Nathula on the Indo China border. Afternoon at Enchey Monastery and the Flower Show. Overnight in Gangtok.

3. Day 3

   Gangtok to Lachung in North Sikkim

   Drive north past the Seven Sisters Falls, Naga Falls and Chungthang to the mountain village of Lachung, about 6 hours. Dinner in a wooden lodge by the river. Overnight in Lachung.

4. Day 4

   Yumthang Valley and Zero Point

   Early start to Yumthang, the Valley of Flowers, with rhododendrons in spring and snow in winter, and on to Zero Point at 15,000 ft when open. Drive back down to Gangtok by evening. Overnight in Gangtok.

5. Day 5

   Gangtok to Pelling via Ravangla

   Drive west to Pelling with a stop at the Buddha Park of Ravangla and its 130 ft statue. Sunset view of Kanchenjunga from the hotel. Overnight in Pelling.

6. Day 6

   Pelling: Pemayangtse, Skywalk and Khecheopalri

   Visit the 300 year old Pemayangtse Monastery, the Rabdentse ruins, the glass Skywalk to the Chenrezig statue and the sacred Khecheopalri Lake. Overnight in Pelling.

7. Day 7

   Pelling to Darjeeling, the Queen of Hills

   Drive about 5 hours through Jorethang to Darjeeling. Afternoon at the Padmaja Naidu Zoo, a Happy Valley tea estate and the Mall. Overnight in Darjeeling.

8. Day 8

   Tiger Hill at dawn, then departure

   Catch sunrise over Kanchenjunga at Tiger Hill and stop at the Batasia Loop war memorial on the way back. Breakfast, then drop at Bagdogra airport or NJP station. Trip ends.
